Description

Kumano Kodo, Japan.
An ancient pilgrim road through the mountains of the Kii Peninsula,Wakayama Prefecture — one of only two pilgrimage routes in the world recognized by UNESCO, alongside Spain’s Camino de Santiago. The paths wind through dense cedar forests, past stone shrines and old torii gates, connecting three sacred sites: Hongu, Shingu, and Nachi.

I walked it off-season, when the trail was empty — just me, the trees, and the sound of my own breath. No rush, no crowds. Under trees that old and that tall, walking slowly starts to feel less like hiking and more like something sacred.
